The RINEX Format

The RINEX format is a platform- and receiver-independent format that is used to log the measurements and navigation messages tracked by a GNSS receiver. While each receiver manufacturer understandably defines data logging formats that are specialized, most manufacturers provide a means to extract observations and navigation messages into RINEX.

RINEX version 1.0 was first proposed in ??? by Verner Gurtner. The most current version of RINEX is version 3.0. At the time of this writing (late 2007) the preponderance of GNSS data shared on the web is in the RINEX 2.1 format.
